Around 1901, The Rev. J.L. Lash was sent to Rural Hall
to organize an A.M.E. Zion Church. In 1904, under the
leadership of Rev. Stewart, Steward's Chapel began
construction land given by the Anderson family of Rural
Hall. The church was named in honor of Rev. Stewart
